The busiest times are evenings, weekends, summer, spring break, and holidays. These spaces are available on a first come, first serve basis. If all spaces are full, you can park at the Greek Theatre and take the bus. Disabled access shuttles coming to the Observatory will be passed through even when the road is closed and will drop off at the horseshoe driveway in front of the building. Such shuttles may not park at the Observatory. Groups do not need to make any kind of reservation to visit the Observatory or notify the Observatory in advance of their visit.

NO buses may park or wait at the Observatory at any time. Buses must leave after dropping off passengers and return when they are ready to pick up visitors; there simply is not room at the Observatory for safe parking. There is generally parking available around the Greek Theatre, though this is not guaranteed. While we are not able to provide tour guides for group tours, our knowledgeable and experienced Museum Guides are located around the building to help make your visit successful.

Chaperones must ensure the safety of all children by prohibiting horseplay, running, climbing on exhibits, or other disruptive activity. Chaperones must ensure children do not bring food, drinks, or gum into the building. We are not able to make ticket reservations in advance.

We went left at the fork in the road and it was very steep. I had to carry my little dog most of the way up to the Observatory.

I would consider this moderate level for people who are beginners. Very nice hike with both paved and dirt paths. We took a baby stroller to the top and while it was a pretty smooth path, you had to watch out for the bumps, crevasses and rocks to make it comfortable for the baby. Definitely a challenging climb, but a few breaks on the flats never hurt. East trail to the observatory looked fairly crowded, so we opted for the West trail and did a reverse hike. Cars are speeding by with varying muffler capacity. Smells a bit like a sewer. Very sunny but there were a few moments of shade scattered along to breathe. This is a great hike. Starts off nice and easy and quickly becomes steep up to the observatory. We went at 5 on a Thursday and there was hardly anyone on the trail.

Hiked this trail midday today with my kids. First 15 minutes of the hike was well shaded. Once you pass the tree lines, there are only few shaded spots to take a break. We took a lot of breaks, there were few stretches with steep inclines. The running shoes were not best suited for those fine sand to hike down.

Nice views of the downtown. The play area near the trail head was good, my kids played there on the way down. There were a few port-a-potty near the play area. We saw a lot of kids hike this trail, even with strollers too. Although, pushing the stroller up will be relatively easy compared with hiking down.

Overall nice experience, would like to do a late afternoon hike for the sunset view sometime. Great short hike, very shaded and flat. Can be used to connect to the observatory trails for a longer hike. Observatory trails are very exposed, not very much shade at all.
