Why did jester leave in flames
In Flames was better in the old days! I have been listening to In flames since someone handed me the Jester Race back when i was in high school. Since then the entire In Flames image and sound has captivated me. At the time i was looking for a sound. One that really spoke to me, one that would channel feeling and thought that every adolescent struggles with. As i aged into a man i almost feel like In Flames aged with me.
In ways this is a beautiful thing, however, with growth also come pain. Two opposite ends of the spectrum when it comes to their musical spectrum. In Flames fans are special. You cannot convince people.
But I would agree with you: We have very, very passionate fans. It means that we move them. This sucks! Are you guys ever conscious of those older fans? Do you ever maybe make a song on the album for those fans or toss one in as a throwback? There are too many of them, so I cannot please everyone. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Those are great albums.
But when we released Reroute , [people said] it was our worst album ever. You totally misunderstand. But I cannot write exactly for you. That is just impossible, because there are too many people with their own wishes. It took us to where we are today. Do you think the fact that In Flames change with every album is part of your legacy?
You guys have stayed true to yourself, and every album is so polarizing and different. It keeps things fresh. I wanna challenge our listeners a little bit. There are no rules! You can do whatever you want. Can I not do what I want? I have to be this person to be part of this scene. I cannot look this way? To me, you can do whatever you want. I can promise you one thing: We will never do a country album. He was such a big part of the In Flames sound, guitar-wise.
How have you overcome that? I think Jesper, mentally, had already been out of the band for a few years before he left. He was actually not touring for almost a year-and-a-half before we made the decision and he exited the band.
We know how an In Flames album should be done. What are you trying to do vocally this time around? I just had to do what I did this time. Live, I still like to scream. You get an energy from your fans. It's always a combination. There are times where, in my head, [I think] 'Let's do this type of vocals. It's always back and forth, back and forth. Don't get me wrong: I love the audience and that's why we're here and able to do this and that's why you are here and why you guys are watching.
But, when we create the music, it's for us. We have to be happy. I live and die by the music. That's it. On whether he agrees with the notion that "I, The Mask" is more guitar-oriented than 's "Battles" :. Anders : "I agree in many ways. There's equally much as of the electronics, it's just in the production. It's great that you say it's more guitar-oriented.
There's as much guitar as on 'Battles' , but the production, the mix, it's different. It's sort of the only thing we said prior to the album because we don't have big meetings about what we should do or shouldn't do, we just go with the flow. We said, 'Let's move the guitars a little bit forward in the mix. Howard [ Benson , producer] and Mike Plotnikoff , the whole team helped us with a great tone and everything.
Sure, looking at 'Battles' , I think it's as good as it can be. We love it, but it's more laid back compared to 'I, The Mask' , for instance. Anders : "I hear it when I do interviews, when I get questions, but I don't follow what's going on. Of course, I'm aware, but it's not a debate I have. I mean, I've given up a long time [ago]. I know I can't win.
I do what I do and I create music and I have a good time and if people like us, that's great and if they don't, whatever. I can't do anything.
