Rains are experienced in the south and eastern parts of Iran while other parts experience arid conditions. Rain mainly falls during winter season around the Mediterranean while the summer season is very hot. The coast of the Caspian Sea is slightly colder with temperatures of five to seven degrees Celsius. Rainfall ranges between to millimeters annually. Thorny shrubs and fern also abound. Iran is mostly arid or semiarid, with a subtropical climate along the Caspian coast. Precipitation also varies greatly, ranging from less than two inches in the southeast to about 78 inches in the Caspian region.
