How is swimming played




















When their feet leave the wall, swimmers must be on their backs. Backstroke races start with swimmers already in the water. Swimmers place their feet against the wall, and hold onto either the gutter or the grip built into the starting block. At the finish of the race, backstroke swimmers must stay on their backs until they touch the wall, ideally with one hand.

A breaststroke swimmers arms and legs must move simultaneously, on the same horizontal plane, and identically to each other. So-called scissor kicks are not allowed. The arm stroke begins and ends in streamline position. The hands scoop water out to the sides, before sweeping in toward the middle of the body and then shooting forward. Swimmers are not allowed to pull their hands down past their hips, and must keep their elbows in the water when their hands are shooting forward.

On the breastroke kick, swimmers must point their toes out to the side as the feet sweep out, around, and back together.

For every arm stroke there must be one, and only one, kick. Breaststroke races begin with a forward-facing dive from either the edge of the pool or the starting block. At the beginning of each lap, swimmers may do one pull-down: one huge pull, in which the hands sweep down to the thighs, and one giant kick to the surface. Long distance open water swimming events are also held on open water, such as rivers and oceans.

Swimming is also a part of other sports, such as triathlon. The major competitions for men and women events are the short and long course world championships and the Olympics too. Swimming is one of the most renowned sports of the summer Olympics. Always swim with another person until you can float and swim on your own. When teaching kids how to swim, the experience should be fun and playful. You can also give different techniques fun names.

If a swimmer is NO T in medal position and is NOT gaining from improper stroke technique the judges should be told of the improper stroke technique. Or if the swimmer gains a medal winning position from incorrect turns then the FINA rules apply.

If the swimmer is not winning a medal and makes an improper turn, the position will stand No DQ! This is a member of staff also coaching a team. Scoring System for events 6 Schools A Events: 1st 18pts, 2nd 17pts, 3rd 16pts, 4 th 15 pts, 5 th 14pts, 6 th 13pts B Events: 1st 12pts, 2nd 11pts, 3rd 10pts, 4th 9pts, 5th 8pts, 6th 7pts C Events: 1st 6pts, 2nd 5pts, 3rd 4pts, 4th 3 pts, 5th 2pts; 6th 1pt All Relays are double points, just normal A and B race points awarded.

All events will take place under international rules with the following exceptions: All races will take place in a 25m pool. Backstroke flags are placed 5m from each end wall of the pool Electronic, we do not have we will have time keepers Two timers will time each lane. Place judges will decide finishing positions for 1 st , 2 nd , 3rd and 4th places rather than using times. The times will be used for personal records only. Times will decide all other finishing positions.

Lanes have been allocated well before the event. Starting signal is a hooter.
